My big takeaway was the idea that it can actually be easier to create revenue first by going after the big ticket thing. Because we've probably all been through the painstaking way trying to sell small ticket items and wondering why we're not making any money. I guess it just takes some courage to do the big ask and so being able to practice that today was really helpful.

Survive and Thrive is a great book for entrepreneurs. It is easy to read and to the point. Chapter 6 - The Selling Story is the chapter that was most applicable to me. In this chapter, John creates a framework for creating a gateway, flagship, and continuity product. It's important these products fit together into a cohesive "selling story". It's a highly recommended read for someone starting their own business.

I found John's way of speaking in this book to be refreshingly straight to the point. He explains things in detail, but in a way that's easy to understand. It truly is a book for anyone to pick up and learn from. There are quite a few sections I highlighted, my favorite being how to approach goal setting (thanks for that one!) that has already been working for me. It's a short read that feels like a "best of", singling out everything that works and separating it from the noise.

I've heard it said there are three types of perspectives we can adopt as entrepreneurs: the Historian, the Reporter, and the Futurist. All are important: the Historian pulls insight from the past, the Reporter focuses on current events, and the Futurist focus on what is to come. This is a futurist book. A key takeaway for me: Choosing the path of entrepreneurship means choosing a path of problems for the rest of your career. I've been quoting that line to my audience since I read it. Highly recommended title.

I googled myself and found the author of the same name. I’m a CPA and majored in economics. I found that John laid out some technical concepts I already knew (and some I didn’t), but it was more about the way he presented the information. He didn’t try to dazzle with a bunch of jargon, but instead explained things you can take action on. I was lucky that my vanity of googling my name lead to an inspiring read. :)
John really hits the nail on the head with this book. It is extremely insightful and has a crazy number of really practical tips for thriving in your business. I particularly like Chapter 6 on "Selling Strategy". The tiered pricing and business model he describes is brilliant. The other thing I found really helpful is the metrics-based approach he uses for everything. It is not shooting in the dark but rather creating solid strategies based on the numbers.
I was hooked right from the intro. This approach to entrepreneurship makes a lot of sense and resonated with me immediately as an approach that works in the real world, written by someone who's "been there, done that". The trial and error method alone can be long, costly, and painful. So I really appreciated John's conversational tone, without meaningless filler, taking the reader straight to the key elements that actually move the needle. This book feels like the privilege of meeting with a start-up mentor over coffee.

There is so much to love about this book. Good topics. Great writing. Practical illustrations. Tremendous value. From start to finish, there were so many times that it related to exactly what I needed to read, making it an instant favorite. Meese has a talent for crafting compelling and engaging narratives. The writing is clean, concise, and infused with a sense of passion and purpose. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an engaging, thought-provoking, and useful business book.
As always, John Meese makes a TON of sense as he offers practical, down-to-earth advice about building a business and supporting customers the right way. Definitely a gem! I particularly liked the quick, easy-to-read style that made it simple to gather nuggets of advice in just a few minutes. Great job!
John’s philosophy of Always Be Teaching is a huge mindset shift from the way most content creators think. I loved how easy this was to read + the illustrations make it a lot of fun! You could easily use this book to build your entire philosophy that powers your operational results.
Always Be Teaching is an easy-to-read resource for those who are new to the online space, are moving into it from a brick-and-mortar, and even for those who like a succinct review of concepts they’ve been learning for years. John Meese uses dozens of real-life examples of what others have done. I loved the simple and yet well-illustrated visual concepts. Each chapter is short and easily digestible. If you want a book with well-rounded business advice and ideas without having to buy All. The. Books, grab your copy.
I've been in the online business space for over 5 years, and this book would have saved me so much time from chasing gurus. John's presentation and communication of those concepts makes them easier to understand and faster to implement. None of us need another book on theory or how cool the author is for grinding it out. What we need is what John offers. Practical wisdom, easy to understand, easy to apply. If you are a wantrepreneur looking to start or an entrepreneur ready to scale - this book is your best bet.
Each section in this book is short and to the point. I can read one chapter quickly and get all the information I need. He does a great job making things straight forward and actionable. And as silly as it sounds, the illustrations help to drive the content home making it memorable. Definitely worth the read.
Forget the MBA and do this instead. Business doesn't have to be complicated. But way too many people overcomplicate it. Unfortunately, that leads to many businesses never getting started. This book breaks down the truth: that anyone with the drive to do so can start a successful businesses. I'm very confident you'll do great if all you do is implement what you learn in here.

John has a knack for sharing key concepts in a creative and interesting way that sticks with you. His writing style is down-to-earth and reads like you're having a conversation over a cup of coffee. The way the book is organized makes it easy to read one lesson per day in a few minutes. Each lesson challenges your assumptions and breathes life into the areas where you feel stuck or discouraged. Lots of simple to understand and apply "aha's" are waiting for you in Always Be Teaching.
John, I want to thank you for inviting me to this to this event. I don't normally do these kinds of things (though I'm not actually an extrovert, but I'm good at talking) but I like to actually go in my shell and be quiet on my own space. So to come out and do this has been really helpful. I think for me the big takeaway was more clarity on what I am doing. I have a case of ADD so thank you for the focus of these six hours and to be bold!
Thanks so much for a great workshop on Friday. By the end of the day, I had more clarity and of course, more ideas! I think my number one takeaway would be just the importance of focusing on the flagship product first. I love the format, I just love everything about it! I think it's a win-win for everybody because the clients get results, they're in that group dynamic, it gets that revenue going right away. It's just a really, really smart way to build a business from the beginning.
My big takeaway was the 10x concept and the way it ties everything together. That's a brilliant idea. I think it just sets together a lot of things because you're implying the promise, but it's something magnetic in the sense that it puts a stake in the ground but it also causes reflection and there's nothing better than that. It's like a good pause.
As a Christian trauma-informed book coach, I wanted to start a group coaching program but didn’t quite know how to proceed. When I signed up with John, he helped me optimize my offer, structure the group, and improve my Book Crafters Academy sales page. Perhaps most important, John modeled for me what a good coaching program looks like. As of this writing I already have 3 (out of 8 total) ready to sign up. This wouldn’t have happened without John’s help.
I think that serve call template is a game changer. I've done a few calls like this, but it's always been like, "Okay, what's next? What's next?" and I've never really had a script at all so I think, yeah, that'll definitely be a game changer. The other thing I found really useful was some of the smaller things you talked about, like the meeting structure, how to structure these sessions. Once a week, 90 minutes, start with the weekly wins. Small things, but critical for good structure for the session.
I think there's always another level of organization, and it's cool to see the behind the scenes of how you think, because I think completely differently. I don't know if my thinking is going to get me where I need to go next. That's been super helpful.
I love your mix between following through on what you normally do and also peeling back the curtain for us. It feels like you're being real and genuine, but also leading the way

Helpful Succinct John interviews the greats- people you’ve heard or may even subscribe to, but he doesn’t ask them the same questions everyone else does. John’s questions are thoughtful and provoke interesting and helpful responses from his expert guests. I love the length, too! It’s not so long that there’s tons of rambling, and not so short that I feel like there wasn’t enough substance.
